This year the RDA and Office of Community Development in Pittston City partnered to host a summer cookout in Sullivan Park. The cookout is a way to bring neighbors together and enjoy city parks. City staff grilled burgers and hot dogs made possible with donations from US Foods on Rutledge Drive in Pittston City. Jessica Lane from The Pittston Memorial Library joined the cookout to read summer-inspired books to children in the park, and a bounce house was also on site for kids to enjoy.
The city created a "community coloring" table with a flowered mural coloring sheet that attendees took part in. Sunglasses, frisbees, and coloring books were passed out to everyone who came. Phyllis Hopkins Electric Trio performed live music and attendees also enjoyed park games like tag, basketball, volleyball, and catch.
Various City Departments were in attendance including the City of Pittston Fire Department, Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance, Pittston City Police, Mayor Lombardo, Main Street, Clerks Office, Pittston City Facilities & Street Department, and the Office of Community Development.
It was a fun day for all! We look forward to next year's cookout and would like to thank the following organizations for making this city event possible:
US Foods (Pittston City)
Walmart (Pittston Township)
Redners (Pittston Township)
